Staff Eva Hayward“Anyone who welcomes a little child like this on my behalf welcomes me, and anyone who welcomes me welcomes not only me but also my Father who sent me.”
– Mark 9:37

Eva Hayward has served as the Children’s Ministry Director since September 2019. Building upon over 20 years serving in Children’s Ministry, she first felt the call to step into a ministry position within the church in 2011. It took 8 years for God to bring her to Fairplains Baptist Church and to bring that calling into fruition. As Fairplains Baptist continues to be used by God to equip so many, to make disciples, and to make an impact in the community and beyond, she cherishes the opportunity to point every precious child to Jesus Christ knowing that the future of His church and His body is found in these young souls.

Eva’s walk with Jesus began when she was only 5 years old. As a teenager, she lost her mother and subsequently wasted years running from God only to be recaptured by His love on a roadside in Houston, Texas. Since that day, He has been patiently working in her life to shape and reshape her, teaching her the unforced rhythms of His grace.

Eva grew up on a cattle ranch in Texas. Building upon a degree in Engineering from Texas A&M University, she had a 20+ year career in telecommunications before choosing to settle in Boomer, NC. She and her husband of over 30 years, Gene, along with their very special daughter, Laura, fell in love with the Blue Ridge Mountains and made their home in Wilkes County in 2017. Their older daughter, Cara, and her husband, Trevor, currently live in Wisconsin.

Eva is also a coach for Special Olympics swimming, Coordinator for FaithFest Special Friends, and currently serves on the Board of Directors for Samaritan Kitchen.
